Pascavale
Cavaliers king Charles Spaniels
We were attracted to the breed like so many by their size,
loving outgoing temperament and kind soft expression. We bought
two companion bitches from different breeders in 1987 one of
whom came from breeders who exhibited (Leogem) We enjoyed our
new family members and after a couple of years decided it would
be nice to have a litter. After visiting the Southern Cavalier
championship show and seeking advice from breeders we had a
litter. We wanted to keep something to show but alas
unfortunately we did not get anything good enough.
Not to be deterred we carried on going to dog shows and
eventually bought a show bitch from the Leogem kennel ‘Leogem
Juniper’ she was about a year old when she came to us. We
entered her at shows and she did well winning at open shows and
the odd place at Championship shows. Eventually she did win a
class at Crufts handled by her sires owner Norma Inglis. Norma
and Gordon became friends and were great mentors to us for some
years.
Now our interest grew and we had more litters from our girls one
to Craigowl dog called Hoodunnit, a CH Hoodwink son put to our
original Leogem pet Gemini Lady of P the result was P. Matinee
Kiss. She later in turn was mated to CH Homerbrent Festival
which resulted in P. Lulu JW Up until then we did not really
know what we liked and wanted in the way of type. When Lulu was
born this changed she was the type we wanted. She was the look
we strove for and we still do in many ways today. She was not
prefect by any means. She did well in the ring gaining a Junior
Warrant and winning her class at the parent Ch show in 92’ But
she did bless us with her consistent quality progeny. She was
mated to three quality dogs including CH Telvara Karbon Kopy and
CH Chantiz Indiana Spring and produced well in every litter
including our first champion P. Louis and International Champion
P. Designed. Lulu is in every Pascavale pedigree today and has
been a truly matriarchal figure in our breeding programme. We
are very proud of her she is now nearly fourteen years old
ruling all at the Old Toll House including us!.
Along the way we brought in whole colours with a Black & tan
bitch Woodstock Madonna a CH Harana Rockstar daughter. She
produced P Austin when mated to Ch P. Louis Austin he did well
in the ring gaining a Challenge certificate and a reserve. He
also did well siring P. Posh and P.Dudley
A bitch we showed gaining three reserve CC’s and had in
co-ownership with her breeder, Woodstock Crystal Spring at P.
was mated to P. Designed’s brother P Spencer. This mating
resulted with a very special bitch Britannia of P. She had an
incredible puppy career winning show after show including a
reserve CC in puppy this amazing start to her show career was
topped when she gained her crown by thirteen months of age
making her the youngest champion bitch ever. We mated her to CH
Tameline Northern Dancer and she produced quality puppy’s
including our dog in a lifetime CH P. Enchanted!!
We mated P. Dudley to another Austin daughter and that
combination created CH Winnie of P. This bitch was a joy to show
as she never stopped showing. She was shown extensively over
three years gaining a cache of prizes including second top
cavalier 2002
We have used some lovely dogs from other kennels including CH
Loranka Celebration which gave us CH P. Ryan we had an
incredible day at Crufts in 2004 where Ryan became Best of Breed
a dream come true, this was one of the special truly moments.
Ryan was mated to another brought in bitch Volney Patience and
produced another Pascavale champion P. Krystle this was our
sixth UK Champion title which completed a very special 2004.
It is a big thrill when people want from your breeding and we
are very excited when this has been successful we have exported
show winning dogs to many parts of the world and many of them
becoming champions in there perspective countries. Our dogs have
been used at stud for many years and have produced for many
kennels but one dog has been a truly great sire producing
champions on five continents including top cavalier for two
years in the UK and France he’s produced over thirty Crufts
qualifiers in the UK alone with two UK champions from his first
litter! This dog is ‘CH P. Enchanted’ he fits so much into what
we want to see in a cavalier we both love ‘Teddy’ dearly for him
alone not his achievements in and out of the ring.
We are now consumed with the breed in many ways we are both on
breed committees Mark is on the CKCS Club Committee and I’ve
served on the Southern CKCS Club for ten years.
We both enjoy judging cavaliers also and have been doing so for
over fifteen years. We’ve both judged internationally in Sweden,
Norway, France and the USA Mark has judged in Germany, Australia
and New Zealand also.
We organise through the Southern Club the ‘Discover Dogs’ kennel
Club event held in London annually. This is intended to educate
and inform prospective dog owners on all aspects in owning dogs
and gives a chance for the public to meet all the breeds. I’ve
for many years organised the cavalier breed booth and we’ve won
many awards for fulfilling the promotion the breed in this
worthwhile event.
We are proud of the achievements we’ve made and the great
friendships we’ve made along the way, all around the world. It’s
a wonderful breed and we are so glad to be part of it.

1. What is the most important
issue/aspect in your breeding program?
Firstly breed type closely followed by quality within a
healthy programme.
2. According to question 1, have you achieved this in your
breeding program?
We think so on occaissions
3. What do you look for when picking a puppy in a litter?
Instant appeal, good expression and something that shines!
4. In your opinion, which cavalier (present & past) has been
the most significant for;
a) UK (all breeders) Homaranne Caption
b) for your own breeding Pascavale Lulu JW
5. Which cavalier has been the most significant/important
that you;
a) owned Champion Pacavale Enchanted
b) from your own breeding program Pascavale Lulu
JW,Ch pascavale Enchanted
6. List down below, the best dogs and bitches in each colour?
a) Blenheim dog CH Alberto of Kindrum
b) Blenheim bitch CH Timsar Mischeif
c) Tricolor dog CH Barsac The Palio
d) Tricolor bitch American CKCS CH Orchard Hill
Never Grow Up
e) Black/tan dog CH Buckny Mellowman of Chaminic
f) Black/tan bitch CH Harana Nina Simone
g) Ruby dog CH Harana Too Darn Hot
h) Ruby bitch CH Chamanic Lucasta
7. From the above mentioned Cavaliers – who is the best?
It's hard to say who was best in a balanced sense because if we
were judging all in a class together it would depend on
performance, condiction etc.. however on a romantic, who steals
our heart sense in type, it would have to be Alberto.
8. Which moment/memory is your biggest regarding shows/dogs?
Proberly thiers two, the first receiving our first Challange
Certificate a complete shock from a post graduate class (CH P.
Louis) and the other was winning Best of Breed at Crufts (CH P.
Ryan) in 2004 which eventaully was an incrediable year for us,
making up three champions in five months
9. Which moment/memory is your worst regarding shows/dogs?
The worst moment in dogs was when we lost one of our old
original bitches Katy she was nearly 14 years old but she died
suddenly while we were watching TV one night. She was one of the
sweetest cavaliers we've ever had and we missed her dearly for a
long time after.
10. What kind of a judge do you prefer showing for?
A honest one, we stand differing opinions of the standard but
not bias and coruption.
11. Is there anything that could be changed within the
show/dog world?
The way we select judges can be quite amazing at times and leave
you wondering thier qualifacation to judge. But the system of
gaining titles we approve of.
12. Describe the best puppy-buyer?
An experienced cavalier owner is always preferable.
13. Any advise to new breeders in Cavaliers?
Love the breed, be open minded to advice, beleave in your own
convictions. A common fault is, theres a winning formula, you've
just got to work it out, which of course thier is'nt!! that's
usually worked out in time.
14. Any advice to new exhibitors?
Be patient and kind to your dog always and try to make it fun
for the dog to exhibit, sometimes easier said than done though!
15. Any other interest except for Cavaliers?
Did have but now most things relate around this wonderful breed
but we do enjoy travelling.
16. What makes you happy in the show/dog world?
Seeing people who've not won top honours do well for the first
time. We enjoy bringing out a new puppies. Hearing from people
that have bought from us or used our stud dogs and being
successful. It is a great thrill when someone wants what your
doing with your breeding programme. And of course all the great
friends with have arround the world, all with this common
interest.
17. What makes you pissed off (sorry for the language) and
mad?
Bad losers, always be graceful. Jealously of others success. But
mainly corrupt judges, not bad ones but corrupt ones!
18. Why did you choose the breed Cavalier King Charles
Spaniels?
At the time we came into this breed in 1987 we wanted two small
dogs as aposed to having one big one. so size was important but
after researching with books etc the cavalier was always our
number one choice and nothing changed today it's still our
number one choice. We feel priviliged to be part of this
wonderful breed.
